Off the Rails Again

Have been working on some new ICM images. Despite the fact that the process is pretty far removed from what is considered photography, I find that I keep being drawn back to the technique. No doubt my having been a abstract expressionist painter long ago feeds into the whole process, and making the work seems to feed some part of my creative drive. At any rate, here is some of the results. Kurt

P.S. All of these ICM images are shot using a digital camera fitted with a pinhole lens. Some times I also use a ND filter to increase the exposure times. The idea is to have a long enough exposure time to allow controlled movement. I am really painting with light and and this technique is a way to reach that end.

Trying Something Different

These are some images that I have produced recently using flypaper screens. The are for the most part the color versions of some of my black and white Lensbaby shots. I am still learning the process of finding what works for me and what doesn't. I am not sure what to think of them yet, as they seem to be pretty distanced from the straight photography I do most of the time. At any rate, they have gotten a pretty good response.

Roseburg Trip

Went down to Roseburg, OR for a reception (I had two photos there) at the Umpqua Valley Arts Association's Photography Northwest Show. The show gets better each year and if you are in the area I'd encourage you to stop by and check it out as well as the concurrent art show. On the return trip Charlotte and I swung over to the coast and stopped in a number of small towns in the Coast Range. Here are a few of the images from our journey. Kurt

New ICM Photos

Here are some new ICM photos from the last several weeks. I do these often in conjunction with the Lensbaby/Toy Camera images. I am not sure where they are going (I don't get a lot of positive response), but I am drawn to the playful aspect of doing them. They are more akin to painting than photography but that's OK. Dayton Views

The first three images are some  shots taken in Dayton OR. We were returning from picking up work that was in the Newberg show, and stopped at the park in the center of town. There is a replica/restoration of a block house from Ft. Yamhill, however the light was not very good for shooting it. Different situation for the bandstand and the cannon. Check it out if you pass through the area. The last two are from the Albany area. Kurt

More ICM

Here are a few more of the ICM images shot during the last several months. Some images may grab me right away, and some just take more time to make a impact. For me at least, the slow impact images are the ones that have the longest shelf life, and many of the ones that grab me lose their punch pretty quickly.  Back when I had a real studio and darkroom, I would pin up photos and look at them several times each workday. I would write notes to myself in the margins, add crop marks, and in general check out how the staying power of the image held up. One of the advantages of having this blog is that it works for me much like the old studio bulletin board did, I can think about, and live with the images for a extended period of time. Kurt
